Move-in Cardboard CollectionEvery year the Recycling Center organizes a cardboard collection program during the Residence Hall Move-in week. This program is sponsored by the Recycling Center along with the Department of Residence Life and the Department of Food Services. Collection stations are placed throughout the residence hall areas for students to dispose of their boxes. Recycling Center employees and volunteers pick up the carboard boxes all over Northside and Southside and take them to the Recycling Center to be baled. The program has greatly expanded since it first started. We collected 13 tons of cardboard in 1999, 31 tons in 2000, 25 tons in 2001, 28 tons in 2002, and this past year 27 tons of cardboard were collected during this one-week period! If you are interested in volunteering or have suggestions for improving the 2004 collection, please contact us at 845-RRRR.2003 Event Previous Collections Texas AGGIES Recycle DayNovember 15th is America Recycles Day! | In addition to the traditional educational displays set up outside of Rudder Fountain, the 2002 Texas AGGIES Recycle Day included several very special events. Texas A&M was honored with a visit from Commissioner White of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (formerly the TNRCC), who is pictured to the right with Laura Tankersley-Glenn of Keep Brazos Beautiful. Both spoke to students during a program in the MSC Flagroom. As part of this program, the Recycling Center worked in conjunction with several other environmentally-focused organizations to host the “Refined Resale Fashion Show” in which several A&M students and staff members of Keep Brazos Beautiful and the Brazos Valley Council of Governments modeled clothing found at local resale shops. |

The Student Government’s Environmental Issues Committee also hosted a clothing drive in which 7 large bags of used clothing were collected to benefit local homeless shelters through Twin City Missions. We are very pleased with the success of this year’s event and would like to thank all those who helped make it possible, especially members of the following campus organizations: TEAC, NAEP, EIC, and CARE and the city's Keep Brazos Beautiful. |
Planet Earth Day Celebration |
| The Physical Plant Department cosponsors this yearly event with the Water, Energy and Recycling Departments of the Cities of Bryan and College Station as well as the Brazos Valley Solid Waste Management Agency. Open to the public, this event is in observation of Earth Day (April 21) and focuses on community wide education on water conservation, energy conservation, recycling, waste reduction, composting, wildlife habitat and other environmental issues. The 2003 event was held on Saturday, April 26 at the Wolfpen Creek Amphitheater and was a great success! |
